My overarching research interest resides on the regulation of ion homeostasis and blood pressure by the kidney and adrenal gland. I currently lead the Electrophysiology core Facility (e-phac) at UZH, where we use standard electrophysiological techniques (patch clamp, two electrode voltage clamp, Ussing chamber) to investigate the regulation of ion channels and transporters in health and disease. Moreover, we use advanced electrophysiological techniques such as automated patch clamp to interrogate large libraries of small molecules for their modulatory effect on ion channels and transporters. In the near future, we aim to combine high throughput automated patch clamp together with high content screening enabling the functional characterization of heterogeneous cell populations from animal models and human samples.
