Isabelle Binet, Dr. med.

Dr Binet studied medicine in Geneva where she also trained in internal medicine and started her nephrology specialisation. Nephrology and transplantation medicine were pursued in Paris, Basel and in Geneva. Her training was completed with research in Transplant Immunology in Oxford, UK. Since 2004 she is head of Nephrology and since 2009 also of Transplantation Medicine at the Cantonal Hospital St Gallen. Her clinical research focus is mainly on transplantation with an active participation in the Swiss Transplant Cohort Study since the beginning in 2007. Here she focuessed on issues directly relevant for patients and contributed to establish patients’ involvement. Further topic of interests are the allocation of organs from deceased donors and the guidelines for living organ donors established by the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences. In the recent years her focus extended to thrombotic microangiopathy with an expertise for atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome; She established a standard of care for patients referred with thrombotic microangiopathy to the tertiary center in St Gallen. She served on the board of the Swiss Society of Nephrology and Swiss Transplantation Society and also as a President of the Swiss Kidney Foundation, where she developed activities from sustaining classical reseach projects to examining health care issues in nephrology to broadening the board involving patients, specialised nurses and jurists. Dr Binet is a fellow of the European Board of Transplantation Medicine and an examiner for the UEMS Transplantation Medicine exams. She is a co-coordinator and lecturer at the St Gallen Medical School.
